Senior Pet Care

How your pet's needs change.

Once your pet is seven years old, they are considered a Senior Pet. Due to improved veterinary care and dietary habits, pets are now living longer lives. Senior pets can still develop many of the same health concerns as older people do, such as: arthritis and joint discomfort, heart-disease, kidney/liver disease, diabetes, senility, weakness, or cancer and other age-related health issues.

Some conditions that typically affect senior pets include:

  • Arthritis
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Dementia
  • Thyroid imbalances
  • Behavioral changes
  • Mobility issues
  • Kidney, heart, and liver disease
  • Tumors and cancer

We recommend an annual wellness visit to ensure your pet maintains good health. We may also suggest taking some preventative measures such as bloodwork or a dietary change. Every pet is unique, and we strive to help personalize our patient’s care to help them live a long and happy life.

If you have questions about how often we should see your elderly pet or you’d like to schedule an appointment, please call us at (801) 254-6621.
